Women of Carbon and Journey Beyond the Grid showcase inspiring individuals who are reimagining and redefining what our homes, community buildings, and workplaces can be. Rather than turning away from the climate challenges we face, they are leaning in — imagining bold possibilities and bringing them to life.

FILM TRAILERS

Carbon is in the Earth. It’s all around us. It is also us.

Women of Carbon captures the stories of innovative women are redefining our relationship with carbon by repurposing living materials, reengineering waste into valuable chemicals that clean the climate, and driving decarbonization in our built environment. They share life/work challenges while thriving in male-dominated industries. Their collective wisdom comes together to form a singular belief and purpose to restore, protect and ultimately preserve the planet.

The secret lies in the Earth itself.

Told through a feminine lens, the story delves into the minds and spirits of dedicated, driven, and dynamic 21st-century trailblazers whose work is placing them at the core of decarbonization, human health, and economic opportunity.

Journey beyond The Grid: The Hawai'i Off-Grid Story is deeply rooted in the concept of sustainability, both in its narrative and its broader message. It follows visionary architect David Sellers, whose lifelong commitment to off-grid, environmentally conscious design is thrust into the spotlight after the devastating Lahaina wildfire.

Once seen as impractical or overly idealistic, David’s philosophy—shaped by time spent in Alaska’s untouched wilderness and his fascination with natural systems—suddenly becomes not only relevant but essential.

Through personal storytelling and real-world events, the film challenges viewers to reconsider what it means to build, live, and plan for the future. Ultimately, Journey Beyond the Grid underscores a powerful shift: sustainability is no longer optional. It’s a necessity for survival, adaptation, and the well-being of communities on the frontlines of climate change.

FILM TRAILERS

A lost Eden drowned under Lake Powell re-emerges, revealing the follies of the past and a new way forward for the Colorado River. What The River Knows is an advocacy short-doc that explores this unique inflection point in a centuries-long history: at the same time that we are met with the need to redesign our systems of water management in the west, we are presented with the opportunity to restore one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet.

Save the Farm, Save the Future follows Colorado farmers and ranchers - from sheep and cattle ranchers to peach growers and small organic farmers - as they explore agrivoltaics, a promising new approach that combines solar power and agriculture on the same land. Can this innovation help save farms while meeting society's need for renewable energy?

Curious about the Colorado River Compact and what’s at stake?

Western Resource Advocates has spent decades developing innovative policy solutions and advocating for the Colorado River and the communities, fish, and wildlife that depend on it. Today, we’re at a critical moment in history. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is creating new guidelines for managing the river’s dwindling water. WRA joined forces with six other conservation groups to draw on the latest science, computer modeling, and real-world insights to develop the Cooperative Conservation Alternative.
