Call Representative Hurd: (202)225.4676 (970) 208.0455
Hello, my name is___________ and my zip code is_______ ……
I’d like to give you some Information on the funds withheld from the State of CO under the IRA.
The Trump admiration has canceled $8 billion in clean energy grants nationwide, including over $608 million in Colorado, much of which would benefit the 3rd District.
The loss of these grants has impacted projects that stimulate the economy of Colorado and have led to job losses:
CO State University- $340 million in research and underway projects developing renewable energy
Excel - $70 million in grants for upgrading the grid and developing renewables that will deliver cheaper energy prices to customers
CO Energy Office- $8 million terminated two projects that are underway, installing cheaper energy in solar and geothermal
CO School of Mines- $48 million in grants for research in battery and upgrading the grid were canceled
CO University- $8.3 million development and research in clean energy
The cuts are expected to eliminate jobs. The ripple effect in the loss of employees in research, production, installation, innovation will have an astronomical impact on Colorado’s economy. The withholding of congressionally approved funds will halt collaborative work that provides data and develops technology. The decision affects not only renewable energy but the broader industrial economy of Colorado.

Last week, you issued a letter to Secretary of Energy, Christopher Wright, urging the department to take emergency action to preserve operations at Pueblo’s Comanche Generation Station, claiming job losses. There are 120 current employees at the plant. In the State of Colorado, there are 60,060 jobs in the clean energy boom, which does not include the hundreds of thousands of jobs in the tourist industry that depend on a stable climate.
The Trump administration canceled $8 billion in clean energy grants nationwide, of which $608 million were congressionally approved for Colorado for clean energy development. Meanwhile, the President is focused on a building a $300 million ballroom in the Peoples House for his billionaire friend, giving Argentina $20 billion for a failing government, remodeling a bathroom with gold fixtures, and suing his own government for $230 million of taxpayer’s money. Today, everyday America’s health insurance premiums are going through the roof, millions of children and adults will go hungry without SNAP benefits and Federal workers can’t feed their families. Meanwhile the President threw a Great Gatsby style party costing million as people are literally starving. This is appalling!
As a Representative of Colorado’s 3rd District, your responsibility is to work for the people of Colorado, which includes protecting jobs, supporting families, and addressing the climate crisis; not supporting the fossils fuel industry while bending a knee to a deranged autocrat.
